The garden has been a fixture at the college and is located at the end of George Angell Dr. in Plattsburgh. Members of the SUNY Plattsburgh Garden Club, students, faculty, and alumni including tremendous efforts and care from Lucas Haight have made the garden what it is today.

THE TEAM:
Population & Community Ecology 2023

This spring (2023) our class read and discussed Braiding Sweetgrass and developed awareness of different ways of knowing. Traditional knowledge has taught us much about the gift economy and our role as active stewards of the land. We have worked to become more aware of our role in participating in nature, engaging with seasons, plants/animals, and the greater community of people who have come to rely on nature's gifts. This book has taught us that western science complements traditional knowledge and makes for a more rich learning experience. We are gifting our campus and greater Plattsburgh community this garden and hope you will help in sharing in the gifts and engaging with it in the future.

"We are showered every day with gifts, but they are not meant for us to keep. Their life is in their movement, the inhale and the exhale of our shared breath. Our work and our joy is to pass along the gift and to trust that what we put out into the universe will always come back.”

“The land is the real teacher. All we need as students is mindfulness.”

"The land knows you, even when you are lost"

"To love a place is not enough. We must find ways to heal it."

Robin Wall Kimmerer (Braiding Sweetgrass)
